Hyderabad: Bangalore-based SmarterHomes, a smart water metering solution company, said that apartment complexes in the city turned towards implementing smart meters to reduce water wastage in high residential communities. The company’s IoT (Internet of Things)-based smart water meter WaterOn, integrated with a mobile application provides homeowners with information on their consumption, corresponding bills and leakage alerts.

“As the city faces water scarcity and rising utility costs, we have noticed a growing interest in water metering solutions among residents. At SmarterHomes, weare at the forefront of a movement, providing smart water metering solutions that empower communities to make informed decisions and contribute towards a more sustainable future,” Jitender Thirwani, COO, SmarterHomes.

Sai Brindavan apartment in Kukatpally and Anjanadri Residency at Beeramguda have integrated this technology. The COO said that Sai Brindavan apartment that has 40 flats reduced their water consumption from 15,000 litres per day to 11,000 litres, resulting in 26 per cent reduction in their water usage on a daily basis. Similarly, Anjanadri Residency that has a total of 37 flats witnessed a 25 per cent reduction in their water usage, with a decrease from 12,000 litres to 9,000 litres on a daily basis. WaterOn, designed specifically for multi-dwelling apartment complexes, offers dual benefits, Thirwani added. Firstly, they enable individual households to monitor their water usage. Secondly, adoption of a consumption-based billing empowers Resident Welfare Association in optimising water use by disincentivizing wasteful consumption.
